Guide electrical and data management satellite system, subsystem and component development, ensuring the designs will meet all performance, reliability, and life-cycle requirements. For future satellite developments, perform architectural and detailed design trade studies, develop alternatives, help write RFPs, and evaluate contractor proposals to ensure solid electronics architectures and data processing designs to provide the required performance within cost and schedule constraints. Will work with other DigitalGlobe management, Space Systems experts, Satellite Operations engineers, and contractors to accomplish his/her goals.
This critical position requires design and life cycle support experience in depth across all of the electrical systems of a spacecraft. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to perform detailed mathematical analysis from the system level to individual circuits, on a day to day basis. This individual will work with and provide technical guidance and leadership to both in-house engineers as well as lead engineers working for contractors and their subcontractors. This level of engineering leadership requires an immediate command of electrical systems design, production, test, and life cycle support.
Perform trade studies comparing a variety architectures, implementations, functional allocations, and solution technologies, in support of satellite requirements development for DigitalGlobe Space Systems management
Oversee and guide contractors in the design and implementation of all aspects of satellite electronics and data processing, handling and communication system, subsystem and component development, including:
general electrical architecture and design, including review of electronics issues that arise during development to ensure that contractors have investigated, resolved and documented them appropriately;
parts selection and qualification processes;
electronics test verification methodology and documentation to ensure satellite will meet DigitalGlobe specifications.
Perform independent circuit analyses to verify contractor performance predictions
Prepare and present briefings in support of technical interchange meetings and major internal/customer design reviews
Recommend specific command and data handling (C&DH) implementation schemes
Provide expert knowledge to Satellite Operations group regarding satellite electrical subsystems
Develop electrical system budgets and performance analyses
Prepare and present briefings and design reviews for internal and external customers
At least 15 years of experience in the following general disciplines, with at least 10 years specifically in satellite or space hardware manufacturing including:
analog and digital electrical design
electrical box (unit) and electrical subsystem and system testing
architecture and detailed design of command and data handling, power and communication systems, including hardware-software interfaces and interactions and the nuances of part selection;
system budgeting and performance analyses.
Detailed design experience in the algorithms, software, FPGA design, and redundancy management used in modern spacecraft, including algorithms used for image compression, error detection and correction, encryption, authentication, and data coding. Ability to select, develop, and apply algorithms.
Ability to apply numerical methods and analysis techniques.
