Under general supervision, theParks and Recreation Associate performs a wide variety of specialized support work for events and sports programs offered by the Department. This role involves assisting with creating league schedules, setting up sports leagues, serving as an on-site leader, maintaining facilities and equipment, providing information to participants, maintaining records, and cleaning and/or maintaining assigned areas or facilities.

This is a part-time position, not to exceed an average of 29 hours per week.

Qualifications

Job QualificationsEducation, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

  • Minimum of two years of prior relevant experience is required.
  • Previous experience in administering recreational programs and/or participation in competitive sports is desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesMay be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • Knowledge of principles, practices and methods used in various recreational activities and sports programs.
  • Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; modern office equipment, including a computer and applicable software.
  • Knowledge methods and techniques for record-keeping and report preparation and writing.
  • Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to complete routine, non-routine, and sometimes complex tasks in a timely manner, following through on processes from end to end.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.
  • Ability to use good judgment and think rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
  • Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and basic office equipment.
  • Ability to work under little supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty. Job requires being reliable.
