The GeoCenter is a team of geographers and analysts who apply geospatial technology, data analytics and scenario planning to inform international development programming at USAID. The team works with Washington, D.C.-based bureaus and field-based missions to optimize the strategic planning, design, monitoring and evaluation of USAID’s programs. It also provides mapping analysis and visualization services, works to create data in new geospatial data in unmapped places, and to build geospatial capacity by harnessing a community of practice around geospatial expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate understanding of GIS technology, spatial thinking and remote sensing to create information, characterize events, and discover relationships and trends

  • Successful candidates will work closely with other analysts, government task leads and analysts, and Project Managers

  • Provide expertise in the use and application of GIS technologies.

  • Provide support to advanced GIS analysis and produces integrated GIS products.

  • Compiles, acquires, and processes GIS raster and/or vector data and produces and manages associated attribute tables.

  • Provide guidance on GIS applications, including but not limited to ESRI products (including ArcGIS, Desktop, ArcGIS server, Image Server, ArcGIS Online, and extensions such as Spatial Analyst, etc).

  • Gather, store, process, and deliver geographic information and spatially referenced information.

  • Utilize GIS exploitation methodologies and statistical algorithms.

  • Provide customization of web and desktop GIS applications, interfacing, technical exchange, and training. Basic programming skills in latest programming languages (python, javascript, R, etc.)

  • Possess knowledge of tool development and analysis functions to interface with imagery, geospatial, development and database functions.

  • Provide innovative methods for integrating imagery into international development programs. Possesses knowledge of customer's GIS analysis applications.

  • Provide ad-hoc technical training to a non-technical audience.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Comfortable leading meetings and presenting

  • Willingness to travel for up to 3 weeks at a time to developing countries.

  • Understanding or experience with openstreetmaps, and other open source platforms or software.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 3 years of experience Geospatial Analysis.
