In support of Restore-L critical documentatio requirements. Will generate and advise on softrware documentation delievrables. Experience with NASA and USG software develiopment life cycle.
The Software System Safety Engineer identifies and eliminates safety hazards associated with all development activities throughout the entire program/product lifecycle in support of safety-critical and mission-critical software for a number of important NASA programs, including both human and robotic exploration as well as earth observation platforms.
The Software System Safety Engineer will perform review and analysis of engineering design concepts; investigate and analyze relevant engineering data potentially affecting safe operation of the product and its processes; Analyzes planning documents and develops S/W safety engineering approaches to meet customer, NASA, and other applicable requirements.
Experience in performing complex Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Hazard Assessments (HAs) is highly desirable. Efforts include: engineering analysis of systems to identify and eliminate safety software hazards, integrated hazards analysis, inputs to the software safety testing requirements as well as software verifications, systematic application of safety policies to the design of NASA human-rated hardware, and assistance in the overall implementation of safety practices for systems/subsystems.
Experience with development of complex, safety-critical software systems
Experience across the software development life cycle (requirements, design, implementation, and test) and the entry and exit criteria associated with Program/Project milestone reviews
Familiarity with software architectures and systems & software engineering practices
Familiarity with NASA-STD 8739.8 and NASA-STD 8719.13 and the classification of safety critical software requirements and analysis of related design concepts
Experience with NASA, Government approved Industry, or DoD software assurance requirements, standards, manuals and handbooks, and assessing compliance with these products
Familiarity with Mil-STD-882C
Experience reviewing and/or developing Software Assurance Plans, Software Requirements Specifications, and Software Test Plans
Experience witnessing software testing and demonstrations, and performing SQA audits
Experience with complex electronics (e.g. ASICs, FPGAs) and programmable logic devices
Familiarity with Agile software development processes
BS/MS CS or BS/MS in Engineering degrees. Knowledge and experience with USG/NASA documentation deliverables and metrics (5-10 years).Knowledgeable on all aspects of Software Development Life Cycle (8 - 12 years)
