Job Description

The Manulife Audit & Advisory Services Data Analytics group supports the global audit teams by collaborating with them to provide relevant data and effectively employ the use of data analytics in audit activities. These activities cover the different product lines and functions within the company globally. This includes Insurance, Wealth, Investment, and Banking products as well as actuarial and information technology functions.

The position of Senior Manager, Data Analytics is a vital team member in contributing to the development and execution of the Data Analytics Audit Services strategy globally. The successful candidate will bring their good communication skills, innovation, a demeanor for critical thinking, project management, strategic and functional expertise used through data management and analytics to drive the success of this initiative.

Responsibilities:

Audit

  • Own the development and execution of certain sections of the Audit Services strategy and road map for the DA program

  • Contribute to the development of Audit Services policies, strategy and direction; continually improve audit and supporting processes using technology to the fullest;

  • Develop and maintain Data Analytics audit methodology and audit program (with support from Professional Practices) and deliver training to Audit Services management, staff and key partners;

Analytics

  • Owns and delivers the analytical project planning with 3-4 audit teams at a time, to establish projects of complex scope and work, particularly for audit procedures and data collection tasks.

  • Develops and implements analytics enabled solutions to generate use of our data assets, descriptive and predictive analytics, and automated risk assessments to improve and enhance audit engagements, enable continuous auditing and other monitoring activities, and help identify and mitigate emerging risks

  • Planning and execution of the highest scope / complexity data analytics activities on audits, risk assessments and special internal projects (e.g. automation, Continuous Risk Monitoring, Continuous Auditing, ideate controls and data collection tasks, and analyze data and business rules); Partner with audit teams to define data analytics objectives across all types of audits; Rapidly implementing proof of concepts across multiple processes / data sets;

  • Develop detailed business and system knowledge within supported areas. Document business, system, and data knowledge to help build a robust knowledgebase for future efforts

  • Leverage expert applied understanding of programming, stats, machine learning, data visualization, exploratory data analysis, model production, insight generation and data wrangling, automation to identify gaps in control objectives of the business across multiple audits independently.

  • Complete audit analytic procedures conducted in full recognition of the risks of the client group which encompass the internal risks, control risks and internal/external environments and regulatory risks

  • Strong internal network at all levels of the organization, collaborations with Analytics counterparts within the organization.

  • Drive team skills development and engagement; manage talent across the team for development and succession and rotate change expertise;

  • Good ability to generate and simplify recommended action plans coming out of sophisticated data analysis projects, and to communicate complexity with clarity to diverse technical and non-technical partners at multiple levels of the organization

What we are looking for:

  • Advanced/Master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or other analytics/technical field.

  • 8+ years business experience including data analytics experience (a combination of audit and data analytics experience is preferred);

  • Deep understanding of programming languages and analytical tools for data mining, data extraction and analytics (e.g. Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, etc.). A track record of applying advanced analytics – such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning Ops to address business problems is an asset;

  • Expertise with data management, thorough understanding of data analytics theory and application, ability to work with internal business contacts and provide data analysis and management support, experience with a broad range of data platforms (SQL, Databricks, Azure etc.);

  • Expertise in helping define business problems or objectives and successfully designing and driving analytics solutions;

  • Expertise in project management, leading impactful teams, coaching, motivating and mentoring others;

  • Deep knowledge of using data analytics for auditing purposes is preferred.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$92,190.00 CAD - $171,210.00 CAD
