Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Survey group in Rochester, NY is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Land Survey Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in collecting and analyzing data to support a variety of Stantec’s projects. Having a blend of work-related experience specific to civil engineering and land survey projects will give the ideal candidate the opportunity to have a thorough understanding of survey/geomatics practices. Knowledge of the technical requirements of surveying is optimum and candidates with a strong understanding of data processing are strongly encouraged to apply. The opportunity to be mentored by experienced Licensed Land Surveyors will assist in preparation of the candidate’s goal toward state licensure. The ability to work in a technology driven profession and provide outstanding customer service is desired.

Your Key Responsibilities

Duties will include a dual role of office and field work associated with all facets of surveying including ALTA/NSPS surveys, boundary surveys, topographic mapping, control surveying, solar, wind, UAV and laser scanning. Duties may also include transportation design support.

  • Assist surveyors in conducting field surveys.

  • Operate and maintain survey equipment.

  • Set up and assist in managing survey projects.

  • Analyzing and processing survey field data collected using Robotic Total Station, GPS, 3D laser scanning and UAV’s.

  • Have an active role with developing a local UAV division, setting up projects, pre-planning and processing of the data.

  • Contributing to improving practices and procedures of new technology.

  • Working in a team environment on multi-discipline and diverse sector projects.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong mathematical skills required.

  • Good communication abilities required.

  • Solid computer skills and basic understanding of Microsoft office applications.

  • Experience with a variety of field survey equipment required.

  • Experience with CAD and survey software preferred. Candidate may need to work in Civil3D and/or the MicroStation CAD platforms. Training is available.

  • Experience in boundary, topographic and GPS surveys.

  • UAV certification is a plus.

  • Willingness to pursue New York State Land Surveying Licensure.

  • Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Education and Experience

  • Holding a degree in Land Surveying or related field

  • CST Level II or higher preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years or more of experience

  • Strong attention to detail for Quality Control

  • Highly assertive and work well under pressure.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $25.53 Per Hour - $37.02 Per Hour Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
