Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer!

The Azure Core organization provides the fundamental building blocks that the rest of Azure, and hence many Microsoft and customer services are built off. This consists of well-known primitives such as networking, compute and storage, but also bare-metal and utility services which enables Azure to scale in a cohesive and reliable way.

Each of the service teams are responsible for their own security, with the Azure Core Security Engineering team partnering cross-service, spanning the organization, to identify, build, and deliver security solutions such as “secure by default”, “enhanced logging and detection”, and “micro-segmentation”. As an engineer in the Azure Core Security Engineering team you’ll have the opportunity to work broadly across Azure, with world-class engineers, improving security not just internally but for customers as well.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine requirements. Begins to leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. Incorporates appropriate continuous feedback loops measuring delivered value, coverage, and other actionable metrics of value.

  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Applies coding patterns and best practices to write code.

  • Reviews work items to deepen knowledge of product features in partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) and executes project plans, release plans, and work items. Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation. Escalates any issues that would cause a delay.

  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments. Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products.

  • Applies best practices to reliably build code that is based on well-established methods while also applying best practices for new code development. Demonstrates and maintains an up-to-date understanding of both global and local regulations for technologies and system applications to ensure regulations are met. Follows best practices for product development and scaling to customer requirements, and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

  • Has built services on Cloud (like Azure, AWS, GCP).

  • Experience building security solutions

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,

  • OR Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
