SLAC Job Postings

Position overview:

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a candidate to join the Science, Research and Development (SRD) Division at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) with a core focus on solid-state materials science at the LCLS MeV-UED instrument. The focus of this group concerns ultrafast electronic and structural dynamics in two- and three-dimensional solid-state systems using megaelectronvolt electron scattering experiments with the ultrafast electron diffraction (MeV-UED) instrument, and soft and hard x-ray diffraction experiments at the LCLS.

The successful candidate is expected to join the MeV-UED instrument team to help support user science and beamline operations at the LCLS MeV-UED instrument as well as develop new science capabilities and related instrumentation for the facility. The candidate hired for this position is also expected to develop a successful self-led scientific research project/portfolio within LCLS that leverages the facilities’ capabilities. The MeV-UED instrument is planning a series of upgrades to a higher repetition rate, to a higher brightness and a better temporal resolution. The successful candidate will help define and lead the development of the MeV-UED solid-state materials program to leverage these new capabilities to maximize the instruments scientific impact.

Candidates with a strong background in ultrafast electron diffraction or photon spectroscopy are encouraged to apply. It is expected that the candidate will develop a collaborative and strong user support framework within the MeV-UED and the LCLS Material Science teams for optimal use of the facilities.
