Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a cloud engineer joining our team to support the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air and Radiation’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS) highly visible mission-critical systems. Customer is seeking a cloud engineer passionate about new technologies and solving complex problems. Successful candidate will have extensive experience engineering efficient continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines and developing strategic plans to introduce or improve IaaS best practices.

This engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Linux-based cloud computing environments and supporting tools and infrastructure. Candidates must have a deep understanding of cloud computing technologies, Linux operating systems, and networking.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to operations teams during resource deployment activates across EPA Azure and AWS.

  • Provide matrixed-operational support to Unix Hosting team for assigned servers, including on-call rotation duties as necessary.

  • Create and maintain Gitlab CI/CD pipelines and project spaces.

  • Create new project spaces during customer onboarding process.

  • Test and upgrade terraform and cloud providers.

  • Convert often used Terraform code into modules to simplify deployments.

  • Identify OS specific deployment improvements that can be made to existing CI/CD pipeline. Collaborate with operations team to improve deployment times and capabilities.

  • Identify and review cloud services with potential benefit to operations teams. Collaborate with architecture and operations teams to evaluate services.

  • Produce detailed documentation on Cloud Operations and associated work to assist Unix and Windows teams.

  • Provide Service Now ticket support.

  • Attend ADC calls as a NCC cloud operations representative and provide technology and process guidance.

  • Attended EPA FRR calls as a cloud operations team representative and provide technology and process guidance. Implement required project updates to meet FRR requests.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Education: BA/BS

Required Experience: 5-10 years of related experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong technical skills in at least one cloud computing platform such as AWS and Azure.

  • Strong technical skills in Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system

  • Experience with cloud infrastructure management tools such as Terraform and Gitlab.

  • Experience with at least one scripting language such as Powershell, Perl, or Bash.

  • Experience with cloud security and networking best practices.

  • Experience in a DevSecOps or Agile environments.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with a willingness to collaborate and mentor peers.

  • Cloud computing certification of associate level or higher.

Security Clearance Level: Ability to obtain and maintain public trust clearance.

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience working with PKI certificates and X509 protocols. 

  • Familiar with Serverless framework (Lambda), Step Functions 

  • Demonstrated experience using task tracking and version control technology such as GitHub or JIRA.

  • Demonstrated experience integrating with Sponsor enterprise systems, such as Identity and Access Management, Auditing, Email, and hosted DevOps services. 

  • Demonstrated experience working with Agile Scrum based development team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Python development best practices.  

  • AWS Developer or DevOps Certification

The likely salary range for this position is $80,226 - $133,973. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
