Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Chief Practice & Project Officer (CPPO), the Practice Services Leader is responsible for the management of the global Practice Services team, the ongoing development and management of our ISO certified Integrated Management System (IMS), providing professional practice advisory services, and delivering on key strategic initiatives in support of the Strategic Plan.

We are in pursuit of a leader who has extensive experience in managing and supervising teams of professionals and support staff and/or is recognized as a technical expert in functional discipline and marketplace. You will provide functional direction and coaching to team members, as well as leadership and direction on project implementation plans on key Functional Service Team (FST) objectives and priority projects. The role will require superior time management, organizational skills, and managing multiple priorities. As a visionary, big-picture thinker, you will be critical in the development and implementation of the strategic plan and contributing to the overall success of our business.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the CPPO on developing and managing the Practice Services strategic plan, operating budget, and annual corporate programs.

  • Responsible for finalizing annual budget and ensuring administrative labor and expenses remain within approved budgets.

  • Continually develop the ISO certified IMS and oversee its management related to:

    • Keeping the IMS current with evolving requirements in the ISO standards
    • Oversee the Internal Practice Audit team, audit schedule, and program
    • Maintain an effective relationship with the External ISO Registrar (BSI, Lloyds, etc.)
    • Monitor continuous improvement plans, the ISO CAPA program, Lessons Learned database, etc., and take responsibility for corrective action follow-up and close-out
    • Review and share Client Feedback information with the relevant business stakeholders
    • Oversee IMS reporting to the business, C-suite, and Audit & Risk Committee
    • Liase effectively with the Chief Audit Executive and coordinate audit schedule to minimize disruption to the business and align with the coordinated assurance framework
    • Facilitate the quarterly Management Review meetings with the C-suite.
    • Develop online applications to support the IMS to reduce administrative costs, improve timeliness of reporting, and produce consistency in the reporting outcomes
  • Provide professional practice advisory services to the business related to professional registration and licensing compliance, practice permitting, professional practice management plan (PPMP) consulting, and related questions that arise (e.g. shop drawing wording, as-built/record drawing clarification, report waivers, etc.)

  • Attend and participate in FST leadership meetings in support of the Strategic Plan and annual budget.

  • Review financial performance of Practice Services each period and initiate discussion and remedial action, as required.

  • Lead and manage special projects or assignments working collaboratively with the necessary stakeholder groups from the time a need arises to the completion of the change management implementation process. Keeping CPPO and key senior leaders up to date on progress throughout the delivery of the special project.

  • Support the US Federal Program in providing assessment audits as required for compliance with CMMC 2.0 certification.

  • Oversee the Nuclear Quality Assurance program in North America including practices that must comply with CSA N299 in Canada and US NQA-1, 10CFR50 Appendix B in the United States.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated understanding on professional practice related matters including professional licensing authority organizations, professional codes of conduct, practice standards, professional practice management plans, etc.

  • Experience and hands-on knowledge of project delivery and project management practices that exist today in support of our ISO certified IMS.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with the senior business leaders, project management leadership, and corporate FST teams.

  • Understanding and working knowledge of the ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, and ISO27000 global standards.

  • General knowledge of Stantec applications including BI Dashboards, Pipeline, Power BI applications, Power Apps, PURS, etc.

  • Understanding of the diverse delivery environments that Stantec operates in with respect to major projects, small professional assignments, private and public sector clients, diverse areas of professional practice, country specific practices, and across all information security levels.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills to implement policies, procedures and change management on key initiatives across a diverse group of geographic regions, business operating units, professional practitioners, and project managers.

  • Excellent communicator (listening, speaking, writing); personable; a good coach / mentor; able to connect with diverse stakeholders.

  • Adaptable, flexible, resourceful; able to adjust to changing conditions; proactively institutes more efficient and effective processes.

  • Proven critical judgment; effectively manages client, external stakeholders and internal groups; objectively deals with disputes and adversity.

  • Strong negotiating and mediation skills.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 20 years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Extensive experience in professional practice, project management, and business operations.

  • Licensed registration in engineering, architecture or environmental sciences is considered an asset.
