Synchrony VP, Network Reliability Engineer in Cincinnati, Ohio

Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

The VP, Network Reliability Engineer, will play a critical role in maintaining our network infrastructure (both on-prem and Public cloud) to ensure maximum reliability and performance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategies for optimizing network operations and minimizing downtime.

Your expertise will be instrumental in identifying and resolving network issues proactively, as well as implementing robust monitoring and alerting systems. Additional responsibilities include oversight of Incident, Event, & Problem Management processes, Capacity & Performance Management to drive resilience and stability.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the dependability and scalability of enterprise-network environment

  • Develop and lead the reliability process to ensure the highest level of systems availability, stability, security and performance, including maintenance and support, root cause analysis, systems validation, performance tuning and capacity management

  • Have dedicated time for creating automation and processes that improves the reliability of the data network, fixing issues, and responding to incidents/on-call events

  • Establish a root cause analysis program that will lead to reduced downtime, increased resiliency and a culture of continuous improvement

  • Design and implement monitoring, alerting and appropriate metrics (SLO's, SLI's) to track and report service SLAs, performance and operational efficiency

  • Establish network health reporting guidelines and communication plans

  • Drive technical innovation and efficiency in applications as well as infrastructure operations via simplification and automation

  • Coordinate between infrastructure, platform and application subject matter experts to promote reliability efforts through communication and best practice sharing

  • Work on capacity management related investments based on growth pattern.

  • Research and recommend on evolving technologies

  • Lead complex troubleshooting issues

  • Communicate to senior management details of the incident and impacts to the business

  • Deliver outstanding communication (written and verbal) during incidents and follows up with RCA and problem management corrective actions

  • Increase the ability of the network team to proactively identify issues before the user community does

  • Partner with the engineering teams to ensure Network Run can support any new technologies that are deployed

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in IT, Engineering and Bachelor's Degree or in lieu of a Bachelor's 10+ years of relevant experience and high school diploma/GED

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a data technical operations environment with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Cisco Networking Equipment

  • In-depth knowledge in WAN transport systems/services, LAN switch technology (including Spanning tree, VTP domain management), routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP).

  • SDWAN- Fortinet

  • Aviatrix Cloud Networking

  • Palo Alto Firewalls

  • Zscaler

  • Avi

  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience (Agile, scrum, Kanban, Devops)

Desired Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of:

  • Load Balancers / VPN Concentrators

  • VMware Aria

  • NSX

  • MCNS

  • Storage, backup and recovery, and server architectures

  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix/Windows systems

  • IP Address Management / DNS

  • IP QoS, VoIP, SSL VPN/IPsec VPN, Wireless

  • Other Data Technologies, as developed

  • Strong business focus, which includes the ability to collect and analyze VOC (voice of customer) data and match service to requirements

  • Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, Ansible)

  • Proficiency in network monitoring and troubleshooting technologies such as SolarWinds, Riverbed, Splunk, Wireshark, NewRelic

  • Strong ITIL management process knowledge and experience and/or certification

  • Good understanding of Cloud infrastructure (Network and Server architecture)

  • Vendor management experience and good understanding of Cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, etc.)

  • Demonstrated skills in oral, written and interpersonal communication, and promote open communication among teams

  • Experience with managing impact of compliance regulations

  • Demonstrated customer focus - evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer; builds strong customer relationships; creates processes with customer viewpoint; partners with customers to help shape their future initiatives

  • Strong analytical and strong problem-solving skills - communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve; creates actionable strategies and operational plans

  • Change oriented - actively generates process improvements; champions and drives change initiatives; confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways, balances multiple and competing priorities and executes accordingly

  • Excellent customer service skills with a professional demeanor. Must always be able to communicate clearly with all levels of employees, external vendors and management teams.

  • Excellent organizational, problem solving and project management skills.

  • Strong team player - collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various sources

  • Ability to achieve specific results from little direction.

  • Ability to work under pressure, being adaptable and responsive to organizational requirements.

  • Maintain high degree of self-motivation and independent decision making.

  • Ability to work and derive creative and practical solutions to complex problems in an independent work environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to clearly think through a problem and break it down into digestible pieces.

  • Industry certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, CCNP are a plus

  • Master's Degree is an added advantage

Grade/Level: 12

The salary range for this position is 130,000.00 - 210,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
