Johns Hopkins University Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland

The Johns Hopkins Department of Medicine seeks candidates for the position of Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. The Department of Medicine (DOM) is among the top departments in National Institutes of Health funding with approximately $225 million annually in sponsored research funding, and two internal medical residency programs with the Osler Medical Housestaff Training Program being one of the foremost internal medicine residency programs in the country. The DOM and Division have multiple clinical locations including the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore and Howard County General Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital in the greater Baltimore/DC metro area as well as outpatient clinic sites across the region. The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine with 18 divisions and over 3,000 faculty, nurses, staff and trainees and is an integral part of Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions (JHMI), which is a partnership between the School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH).

The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions is recognized nationally and globally with an exceptional record of achievement across our tripartite mission. Committed to advancing biomedical discovery, our faculty's investigators pursue bench science, clinical, and epidemiological research. The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, one of the largest pulmonary programs in the country, is frequently ranked by the U.S. News & World Report as among the best in the nation. We have over 70 full-time faculty and part-time clinical faculty with expertise in diseases including asthma, COPD, critical care, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, lung transplantation, neuromuscular disease, pulmonary hypertension, sarcoidosis and sleep medicine Our clinical and research fellowship program attracts outstanding applicants to be trained as future academic leaders. It has stellar general pulmonary, interventional pulmonary and sleep fellowship training programs. Our yearly research budget, which exceeds $20 million, is generously supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, foundations, medical specialty societies and individual donors.

The Director is the spokesperson for the faculty of the Division. Responsibilities include promoting faculty; recruiting and appointing new faculty; overseeing educational, clinical and research programs; and planning short term and long-term strategic growth.

Candidates must have a record consistent with appointment as an Associate or Full Professor of Medicine. They must have an MD degree or equivalent, an outstanding record of accomplishments in teaching, research, and service, and be eligible for licensure in Maryland. Candidates are required to have board certification in Pulmonary, Critical Care and / or Sleep Medicine or be in the process of obtaining it. The successful candidate needs to have the demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which excellence in teaching, research and scholarship can flourish, as well as experience and interest in developing and leading clinical programs. Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse academic environment is required. Successful candidates will have a record of innovative and effective administrative and fiscal leadership, national stature in academic internal medicine, a record of excellent interpersonal skills, and enjoy interactions with students, staff and faculty. Candidates must be eligible for US employment.
