Amazon Corporate Counsel, Infra Safety, AWS Legal in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Amazon's Legal Department is looking for an experienced occupational health and safety lawyer to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS provides cutting edge cloud computing services and IT infrastructure to public and private clients around the globe, including on-demand compute capacity, data storage, content delivery, database services, browsers, and more. We are looking for a talented attorney to support the global AWS Health and Safety team (AWS HS) responsible for worker safety by providing legal compliance counsel and developing safety, compliance and advocacy strategies for a diverse array of work environments including data centers that power our rapidly growing and evolving cloud computing business.

You will be part of a larger global legal team responsible for counseling AWS on a broad range of health & safety, environmental, trade, and products regulatory and compliance matters. You will work directly with AWS’s global health and safety team to support various AWS business functions – including AWS data center infrastructure and operations, construction, supply chain, procurement, engineering, and product functions. Principal duties include (i) providing day-to-day advice on health and safety compliance issues; (ii) monitoring and advising the business of upcoming regulatory changes; (iii) developing and improving policies and procedures; (iv) working cross-functionally with other data center teams to ensure compliance; and (v) resolving issues that arise in compliance areas including inspections and pre-litigation disputes.

The qualified candidate must have 5+ years of legal experience advising on health and safety laws or similar regulatory compliance issues. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, pragmatic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and working in a fun, team-oriented environment. They must demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. A J.D. degree and membership in one state bar is required. Basic Qualifications

  • J.D. degree (or equivalent) and membership in good standing in at least one state bar

  • 5+ years of legal experience

  • 3+ years of experience providing legal counsel and support for health & safety and regulatory compliance matters

Preferred Qualifications

  • A combination of law firm, in-house, or government experience

  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines

  • Strong analytical and communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
